Stepping in for Herlitzius will be Iréne Theorin, the Swedish soprano who made her San Francisco Opera debut in 2011 in the title role of Puccini’s “Turandot.” Theorin has sung the role of Brünnhilde for many top opera companies, including the Metropolitan Opera, Vienna State Opera and Teatro alla Scala in Milan. The German soprano was scheduled to make her company debut, singing the role of Brünnhilde in the three cycles of the famed opera the company will present June 12 – July 1. Evelyn Herlitzius has withdrawn from the San Francisco Opera’s upcoming performances of Wagner’s “Der Ring des Nibelungen” (The Ring of the Nibelung), due to “unforeseen health reasons,” the company has announced.
